2021 MLB Team Futures Odds, Betting Preview

The 2021 MLB season will begin on Thursday, April 1, and the league will return to its full 162-game slate after a shortened 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. All 30 teams are scheduled to play on opening day from afternoon till late at night, and the first game of the season will get started at 1:05 p.m. ET when the Toronto Blue Jays head on the road to play the New York Yankees.

Taking a look at the World Series betting odds on the futures market sets the scene for what fans across the league can expect to happen as the season moves along. Oddsmakers spent tons of time in crunching the numbers to set odds as close as possible to what they project. Because bettors are placing a wager on items that will be decided several months in advance, sometimes winning a futures bet can pay out quite well, though they’re very difficult to win with so many variables that can play out over several months of a season.

Below is a look at several preseason betting odds featuring team accomplishments for how the oddsmakers expect the season to play out. All odds are via a popular United States sportsbook.

PlayCanada also published MLB futures betting odds on individual awards.

Team Futures

There are tons of futures betting options for bettors to choose from, but here are a few of the major betting types including World Series winner, league winners and division winners with the odds among some of the expected contenders along with the Blue Jays’ odds.

World Series Winner

The Los Angeles Dodgers are the favorites to win it all again in 2021 as they are coming off their first World Series title since 1988. They are getting +350 odds to do it again this season with the Yankees as the favorites to accomplish that mark among American League teams at +550. The San Diego Padres have +800 odds with the Chicago White Sox right behind them at +850. To round out the top five at +1000 odds are the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets tied for that spot.

Toronto is getting the eighth best odds at +2200, which is also tied with the Houston Astros and St. Louis Cardinals.

National League Winner

The Dodgers are close to even money to be the representative out of the National League with +175 odds to reach the World Series with the Padres second at +390. The Braves are getting +500 odds, followed by the Mets at +525 and the Cardinals at +1050.

American League Winner

The Yankees are the favorite to get to the World Series out of the American League with +230 odds with the White Sox at +380. The Minnesota Twins have the third best chance, according to the oddsmakers, at +750, and the top five rounds out with the Tampa Bay Rays at +850, slightly ahead of the Blue Jays at +875.

Division Winners

The Dodgers are the biggest favorites in the National League to win their division with -250 odds to win the National League West Division. The Cardinals are getting +105 odds to claim the National League Central, and the Braves are at +120 to make it out of the East in the top spot in the standings.

In the American League, the Yankees are heavily favored to win the American League East Division at -215, and the White Sox also have minus odds to win the Central at -121. In the West, it is expected to be much more competitive with the Houston Astros barely edging out the Oakland Athletics for the best odds at +125.

The Blue Jays have the second best odds to win the American League East behind the Yankees with +355 odds, barely ahead of the Rays at +375. After Tampa Bay, there is a significant drop off with the Boston Red Sox at +2000 and Baltimore Orioles at +6000 to win the division.
