Sports Betting is now live in Alberta.

Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) announced the addition to Play Alberta yesterday. Play Alberta is the only regulated online gambling website in Wild Rose country.

Now, Albertans can access Money Line, Point Spread, Over/Under and Props for NHL, NFL, CFL, MLB, NBA, and more. The change allows players to place the wagers they’re accustomed to and introduces new bets and events.

AGLC is continuously looking for ways to improve Play Alberta,” said Kandice Machado, Acting President & Chief Executive Officer, AGLC.

“Adding sports betting to the website will give consumers expanded gambling entertainment options,” she added. “Play Alberta Sports Betting will take the existing sports betting market that players are familiar with and introduce a modern option that presents Albertans with choice and convenience in a safe and regulated environment.”

Howdy, Partners

AGLC’s sports betting service leverages their partner, NeoPollard Inretactive’s (NPi), industry-leading NeoSphere iLottery Technology. Play Alberta also benefits from Sporting Solutions’ award-winning Advanced Betting Platform and trading services. With offices worldwide—including Edmonton, Alberta—Sporting Solutions serves many of the world’s largest betting operators. Collectively, the fully integrated solution delivers seamless entertainment that fosters player engagement.

”NPi continues to expand and enhance our products and services in order to give Albertans a unified online gaming experience across lottery, casino, and now sports betting,” said Liz Siver, General Manager, NeoPollard Interactive.

As AGLC’s online operating partner, NPi provides a “complete 360° solution,” added Silver

“We are proud to now offer a state-of-the-art sports betting program in conjunction with Sporting Solutions that is sure to appeal to sports enthusiasts and increase revenue for good causes in Alberta.”

Singles join the party

AGLC is excited for players to place single and multi-event wagers after federal sports gambling legislation recently passed. Bill C-218, which allows provinces to regulate single-event betting, came into effect on August 27.

“Introducing Play Alberta Sports Betting at this time will allow for legal-aged Albertans to play in a safe, regulated environment,” said Steve Lautischer, Acting Vice President, Gaming and Cannabis, AGLC.

“With the first battle of Alberta days away in the CFL and both the NFL and NHL seasons on the horizon, it’s a very exciting time to be a sports bettor in the province.”

Sense and sensibility

What won’t change is AGLC’s commitment to responsible gambling initiatives. AGLC’s GameSense Responsible Gambling Program will continue to be featured prominently across Play Alberta.

Through GameSense, players have access to tools and resources promoting healthy gambling habits. Anyone concerned about their gambling habit can activate loss, bet, and daily session limits. There’s also a self-exclusion program for those who need extra help making the break.

As it stands, Play Alberta is accessible to Albertans over 18 and physically within the province’s border on desktops, smartphones, and tablets.

AGLC’s mandate is carefully to manage the province’s gaming industry to maximize the benefits to Albertans. In 2020-21, more than CA$773 million helped fuel the General Revenue Fund, which Albertans rely on every day.
