From the gridiron to the links, BetRegal has been on a scoring tear of late.
In early August, the Canadian sports betting and igaming business partnered with the Canadian Football League (CFL). That same week they became the official title sponsor of the PGA Championship of Canada.
The 109-year-old national club pro championship is now officially the “BetRegal PGA Championship of Canada presented by TaylorMade Golf and Adidas Golf.”
A bit of a mouthful.
But PGA of Canada (PGA) President, Teejay Alderdice, promises it’s a “historical day” for the Canadian golf industry.
“With the sports betting landscape evolving in Canada, we have been thoughtful with our strategy,” said Alderdice via press release.
The PGA is “excited to add a Canadian gaming partner that will elevate the PGA Championship of Canada.”
With BetRegal and presenting sponsors TaylorMade Golf and Adidas Golf, the championship aims to offer exciting new opportunities to Canadian golfers.
BetRegal making most of single-event ruling
On June 22, the Canadian Senate passed Bill C-218 with a 57-20 vote.
The historic decision legalized single-game betting.
Alongside that choice, creative partnership opportunities have sprouted for sports organizations and regulated gaming platforms.
BetRegal saw its first North American opportunity in the aged CFL.
The five-year-old Canadian company is the football league’s official sports gaming partner moving forward.
When it comes to the Canadian PGA, a three-year agreement is in effect until 2023.
The crossover officially began on Aug. 3 – 7 at the Golf Club du Vieux Village in Bromont, Que. Just moments before the PGA Championship of Canada’s opening tee-off, Alderdice announced the title sponsorship.
Alberta’s Riley Fleming won the event and a CA$10,000 prize. But, afterwards, much of the talk centred around the future of the partnership.
“PGA of Canada is one of the most well-respected sports organizations in the country, and the BetRegal team is excited to bring the partnership to life in compelling ways for fans,” said Michael Mirtl, CEO of BetRegal.
“This is an important partnership for us as we look to educate Canadians about online gaming and set the groundwork for our Canadian operations.”
Currently, the PGA of Canada’s other sponsors includes RBC, DCM, and GolfTV, among others.
Meanwhile, BetRegal is also the Official Global Betting Partner for Dundalk FC of the Irish Premier League.
In 2022, the PGA Championship of Canada celebrates 100 years of tournament action.
