Police are looking to identify four suspects after carjacking in the parking garage of the Pickering Casino Resort in Ontario. Investigators say the crooks drove off with a women’s luxury SUV after taking the keys from her.
The suspects got away, and a search is ongoing. However, there are not a lot of details to help identify the culprits. Hopefully, more information will come out as the investigation progresses.
Investigators: Carjackers pushed woman to the ground before stealing luxury SUV
Durham Regional Police were called to the Pickering Casino Resort parking garage at around 8:45 a.m. on July 17 after a woman reported that her vehicle was stolen. Police say the four suspects arrived in a stolen white Land Rover before two of them hopped out to confront the female victim as she was getting out of her Aston Martin SUV and demanded her keys.
The woman allegedly tried to run to the casino. However, the suspects pushed her to the ground and stole her handbag. The crooks were able to get her keys and drive off in the Aston Martin.
There were no physical injuries reported. Durham police have issued descriptions of two of the four suspects.
- Suspect 1: Male, about 5’10”, with a thin build. He wore a black mask, a khaki hooded sweatshirt, khaki jogging pants and black shoes.
- Suspect 2: Male, about 5’10”, with a thin build. He wore a black mask, a black hooded zipper sweatshirt and black jogging pants.
There is a $2,000 reward for information on the robbers. Anyone with information can call Durham police.
The safety at Canada casinos has become more of a talking point after an employee at Casino New Brunswick died as a result of injuries he suffered during a workplace assault in early March.
Great Canadian Entertainment operates the Pickering Casino Resort. The company has not released a statement regarding the incident. However, the organization’s code of conduct states that violence is not part of the game and will not be tolerated at any of its properties.
Greater Toronto Area seeing a spike in carjacking incidents
This incident at Pickering Casino is among several carjackings across the Greater Toronto Area in recent weeks. It might be unfair to call it a “spree.” However, it does seem like a trend is developing.
A teacup poodle briefly went missing following a recent carjacking in Oakville. Another happened when Peel Police said a food delivery driver died after falling victim to a carjacking in Mississauga. Police say the incident is being investigated as a homicide. York Region Police also reported back-to-back violent carjackings last week, alongside several similar incidents in recent weeks.
None of the crimes, including the one at Pickering Casino, appear to be connected. It is also unclear when and where the stolen white Land Rover they arrived in was taken from.
