The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation is teaming up with Fallsview Casino Resort once more to promote responsible gambling.
Last week, the pair, along with representatives from the Responsible Gambling Council and Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment, celebrated the grand opening of a revamped and relocated PlaySmart Centre at Fallsview.
Operating on the pillars of accessibility, education, and support, the new and improved responsible gaming resource offers a centralized space for players to take a break, learn, and interact with an array of tools and information.
“PlaySmart Centres, like the one at Fallsview, are an important component of our globally recognized, award-winning responsible gambling program, PlaySmart,” Catherine Meade, VP, Community, Sustainability & Social Responsibility, OLG said in a press release. “The centres are filled with engaging interactive tools and resources to help players make informed decisions when they play our games.”
Now situated in the Galleria by Ponte Vecchio, the OLG expects the Fallsview centre, which helped more than 13,000 patrons last year, to receive a significant uptick in visitors.
PlaySmart Centres, which are available at all Ontario casinos, have received more than 500,000 visitors since April 2019 and have become a crucial part of responsible gambling in Canada.
New PlaySmart Centre includes key feature
The Crown corporation’s latest PlaySmart program will also include a key resource for players.
In its statement, the OLG confirmed that its My PlayBreak voluntary self-exclusion program will be available at Fallsview. Here, players wishing to curtail their gambling activities can do so by setting the parameters of their gaming hiatus.
When OLG launched the strategy in September 2022, it became one of the first voluntary self-exclusion programs in Canada.
Notably, the customizable self-exclusion program also applies to Charitable Gaming Centres and OLG.ca.
PlaySmart program continues to earn positive reviews
The OLG has taken great interest in becoming an industry leader in the responsible gambling sector. With the help of multiple partners, the crown corporation’s efforts have been rewarded with both moral and material recognition.
“We are proud of the leadership role we have earned in responsible gambling over the past 25 years, but we know we did not get here alone,” Dave Pridmore, OLG’s Chief Gaming Officer said in a press release. “We work closely with our partners, like MGE and the RGC, to integrate responsible gambling across all areas of our business. This refreshed PlaySmart Centre is a great example of how we are working together so players can enjoy our games in a responsible way.”
Most recently, the OLG received nominations for four separate Global Regulatory Rewards, including:
- The Award for Outstanding Contribution to Safer Gambling
- The Compliance Rising Star Special Award
- The Award for Outstanding Individual Contribution to Responsible Gambling
- The Responsible Approach to Advertising or Marketing Award
Additionally, the OLG has been certified by the World Lottery Association at the highest level (level 4) since 2010. It has also twice been crowned as the best overall RG program by the WLA.
