Unclaimed $15 Million BCLC Lotto Max Prize About To Go Up In Smoke

Written By Robyn McNeil on August 10, 2022
Winning $15 million Lotto Max ticket expires this week. Burning flames, open burning of reed colony.

Were you in Vancouver last August? Maybe you decided to risk a couple of bucks on Lotto Max?

You were?! Well then, it’s time to pop a bottle of bubly because good news: YOU WON!

Unfortunately, clouds are on the horizon—your $15 million winning lotto ticket expires midnight on August 13, 2022.

That means there’s no time like the present to dig through your pockets and your purse. And don’t forget the glove box, junk drawer and abandoned wallets, too. It’s time to pull out all stops before your life-changing lotto win disappears forever.

Missing the deadline to claim your $15 million prize would make for a heck of a sombre Sunday morning. And sadly, unlike many best-before dates, this one is not a suggestion.

So get to it, the clock is ticking…

Search is on for $15 million Lotto Max winner

According to British Columbia Lottery Corp., the winner purchased the lucky ticket in Vancouver last August 13, and the crown corp is anxious to award the prize.

BC’s provincial lottery corp has been spreading the word, even taking to the streets of Vancouver to find the winner and attract attention.

BCLC encourages players who purchased a ticket for the August 13, 2021 draw to check anywhere you might put a Lotto Max ticket.

“Check your beach bags, desks, suitcases, glove boxes and everywhere else that you may have put a lottery ticket. We would love to meet B.C.’s next multi-millionaire!” the lottery urged in a media release.

“We really want to meet the winner,” wrote Shelley Long of BCLC media relations in an email to PlayCanada.

“Anyone who purchased a ticket for the August 13, 2021 draw in Vancouver is encouraged to check their tickets for the winning number: 1-14-17-20-28-32-38. Players can check their tickets at any BCLC lottery retailer in B.C., anytime online or on the BCLC Lotto! App.”

What happens to unclaimed lotto winnings in Canada?

Lottery winners in Canada have 52 weeks from the draw date on their tickets to claim their prize. If you’re unsure how to claim your win, BCLC shares details on its website.

But when it comes to Canada-wide contests, unclaimed money gets thrown back in the proverbial pot.

“For national lotteries such as Lotto Max and Lotto 6/49, unclaimed winnings are used in future draws and promotions,” added Long.

Should the winner come forward in time, BCLC will announce the retail location that sold the winning lottery ticket and the winner’s name. Such transparency exists to ensure integrity in the prize claim process.
