How can I start betting on tennis online in Canada?

If you’re a tennis fan and you’re new to sports betting in Canada, find a sportsbook that you like (please see our list toward the beginning of this page), make an account, deposit some money and you’ll be all set to make wagers. In Canada, the process for opening an account with an online betting site, such as Unibet Sportsbook or Bally Bet Sportsbook, looks like this:

  • Click the link to your preferred sportsbook above. Go to the sign-up page or to create an account.
  • Claim your bonuses or free bets by using our exclusive links to each sportsbook. Where needed, use our exclusive codes to get the best bonuses and promos available to new account holders.
  • Download the sportsbook app to your phone or tablet for ease-of-use and access at your fingertips.
  • Make your first deposit. Each sportsbook has its own allowable deposit methods, though most are the same. Check out the book’s terms and conditions to find out what is accepted for depositing and withdrawing funds.
  • You can make your first bets right away. Simply click on the bet you want, put in the amount you want to wager and confirm the bet slip when you’re finished. It’s that easy.

Where can I place Rogers Cup bets?

As modern technology continues to integrate itself with sportsbooks, you’re going to discover fewer and fewer retail sportsbooks opening across North America and, quite likely, the world. The convenience of using a computer or phone to place your bets has truly sparked a new wave of growth in the sports betting industry.

Online sportsbooks and sportsbook apps are being introduced by every major operator, even those that had previously not been involved in gambling in the classic sense. You’ll find names like FanDuel Sportsbook Canada and DraftKings Sportsbook Canada when you search for online sportsbooks, and it shouldn’t surprise you to find out that platforms like these, which made their mark in daily fantasy sports, are some of the most highly rated by users.

As you can see above, we’ve ranked the top online sportsbooks through which you can bet on tennis in Canada. If you’re of legal age, just register with any sportsbook and create an account. When choosing which sportsbooks you want to use, just click on the name of the sportsbook and it will automatically redirect you to the homepage for sign-up.

When you do, make sure you’re clicking through the links above. That way you’ll get the benefit of the best sportsbook bonuses and promos available thanks to our exclusive deals with each of the online and mobile sportsbooks. If needed, you can also find bonus codes on this site for the sportsbooks requiring them.

Free bets? Bonus cash? Deposit matching? Depending on what the sportsbook is offering to new accounts, you’ll be able to get the best deal through our exclusive links.

How to bet on National Bank Open matches

You can bet on online on every match at the National Bank Open. Your options range from match winners, where you pick the outright victor, all the way down to point-by-point and set-by-set bets.

Every sportsbook has its own selection of available bets listed under the tennis tab. From there you should be able to see what betting opportunities are available for the NBO as well as any other upcoming tennis events.

If you’re looking for the best place to find the latest odds for players who are participating in the National Bank Open, just click through to any sportsbook to see the posted odds for your favourite players.

Who are the National Bank Open betting favourites?

The betting favourites for the National Bank Open are obviously going to shift each year and as the tournament draws closer. But there are always a few players to watch.

On the men’s side, the names Nadal, Federer and Djokovic should ring a bell to any tennis fan—or anyone who ever pays attention to sports, really. Whenever they are in a tournament, expect them to make a run at the championship round.

Additionally, two tennis players expected to compete when entered in the Canadian Open field are Dominic Thiem and Canadian Denis Shapovalov. Both are outstanding players who can upset anyone seeded above them and dominate most matches.

For the women, the field is full of upcoming talent each year, as well as those who have solidified their status in the WTA. Ashleigh Barty, Naomi Osaka, Simona Halep and Sloane Stephens are difficult to beat any time they are entered into high-profile tournaments like the Rogers Cup.

Additionally, you can never count out Canadian standout Bianca Andreescu, who has proven dominant in recent years as she’s climbed through the world ranks. She not only won the 2019 iteration of the Canadian Cup but no doubt plans on claiming even more in years to come.

What kind of bets can I make?

Tennis offers up pretty much the same bets as you’ll find with most other sports, though many of them are specialized. You’ll find moneylines, spreads, totals and more. Here’s a brief explanation of what types of National Bank Open betting odds you can expect.

  • Moneyline: This is the most popular bet in all of tennis. In the most basic terms, you pick which player is going to win their match. You can also find these moneyline markets listed as outright winner, set winner and match winner in various sportsbooks. If you find that Roger Federer is -120 in his match against Roberto Bautista Agut, who is +110, Federer is the favourite (indicated by the negative odds). To win $100 on Federer, you’d have to wager $110 and have him win. If you correctly bet $100 on Agut, you’d win $110.
  • Game Spread: This is basically a version of the popular point spread you’ll find in other sports. In a lot of matches, especially in the early rounds, dominant players will face less talented ones. Picking the favourite in that case hardly justifies a bet because the odds are so poor. A game spread evens the playing field for bettors. If Novak Djokovic is a -1000 favourite over Denis Kudla over three sets, then you might see a game spread at -4.5. For bettors, that means Djokovic has to have five more game wins than his opponent (such as 6-2, 6-3) for the spread to be covered. But if Djokovic wins and the games are closer than five more wins (such as 6-3, 6-4), then Djokovic would fail to cover the spread. In that case, a bet on Kudla would win.
  • Set Spread: Like above, this is just another example of a point spread system. Instead of wagering on games, you’re betting on sets. Let’s use Serena Williams against Petra Kvitova as an example. Williams, in this example, is favoured to win the overall match at -1.5 sets. If you wager on her to cover and she wins taking the match in straight sets (such as 6-1, 6-3), then you’d win. If Kvitova was able to steal a set away from Williams, then you’d lose.
  • Total: This is also very commonly referred to as an over/under bet, and it is designed for the bettor to choose if the total number of games in a match will be over or under the predicted number from the sportsbook. It doesn’t matter who wins or loses, just how many games are played. For example, if Simona Halep and Sloane Stephens are playing a three-set match, the total could be set at 23.5 games. If you wager on the over, the match needs to last at least 24 games for you to win. The under has to be 23 or below. Let’s say it goes 6-4, 6-3. The total number of games would be 19, so the under would win.

Live betting on the National Bank Open

The beauty of modern technology is that you can now bet on tennis matches as they are happening via your online sportsbook app.

Live betting, or in-match betting, allows you to make bets on the games, sets and matches at the moment. You’ll need to use a legal and regulated sportsbook to participate; retail books just can’t keep up with the shifting live betting odds.

You’ll find some awesome and fun bets in there, too, such as who will win the next point, whether the next serve will be an ace and whether one player will make a comeback to win a set. These bets create a more interactive experience than traditional sports wagers have allowed in the past. You will stay glued to the action and be more invested in the outcomes of small in-game events.

Don’t forget about other tennis tournaments

While the Rogers Cup is the most prominent tournament in Canada, it has rivals across the globe that draw plenty of competition, fan attention and, of course, bets. The tournament is part of both the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA).

Because climates vary across the continents, tennis events happen pretty much all year, which means that a tennis fan is able to not only enjoy the matches and tournaments but also make wagers on all of them.

Keep track of what bets are available by visiting the tennis tab on your favourite legal and regulated online sportsbook.
