Boomtown Casino history

Boomtown was founded in 1978 as a small casino that only featured eight blackjack tables and a money wheel. The casino didn’t have a permanent location at the time and was switching back and forth between various service clubs in the city and only hosted casino events on weekends.

This went on until 1990 when the casino was finally established at the former MacKenzie Park Inn. Winners Gaming bought the casino in 1992 and moved it to its current location in 2000. In 2003, Boomtown became a public company and was soon bought by Gamehost Inc. that also operates the casino and owns several other casinos in Alberta.

Boomtown saw its most significant renovation in 2006. The casino floor was expanded to over 23,000 square feet of gaming space, a poker room, a lounge, and a dance floor.

Although it started as a humble weekend-only casino event with portable tables, Boomtown is now a legitimate casino that thousands of people visit every month.
