Welcome to the World Series of Poker — the fine print!
With any game of poker, it’s important to pay attention to the details. Depending on which online poker site you decide to choose, you’ll want to make a point of reading the terms and conditions beforehand.
Doing so will explain how they work and what you need to know in order to be eligible to play. If you have any questions, you also can contact the WSOP help desk.
When did WSOP online poker launch in Ontario?
WSOP debuted in Ontario in September 2022. WSOP partnered with GGPoker to build a site, making it a skin version of the GG platform.
Getting started at WSOP in Ontario
We found the World Series of Poker registration process to be a breeze. It’s free to make an account, and WSOP has security measures to protect your information. To create an account, you can start by downloading the app. This did take a few minutes to set up, which was inconvenient. But, for most online poker sites, we’d have to install it after sign-up anyway, so it’s no real difference.
Once you’ve done that, you can create your World Series of Poker account. Here’s how:
- Go to the “join now” page and follow the link.
- Complete the registration form with your details.
- Make a secure account and finalize the last steps.
After that, you can log in to the app for the first time.
It’s after your first login that you’ll get to pick your nickname. This is the name that will show up during all your gameplay. While it’s always tempting to go with something funny, WSOP doesn’t let you change your nickname from what you originally selected, so keep that in mind.
How do I download the WSOP Ontario app?
Given that downloading the app is a prerequisite for joining, World Series has made it super easy to do. As we mentioned above, we had no hassle downloading or joining, and the process is just in a different order than what we’d typically expect.
The app is available and compatible with all major platforms. Windows and Mac laptops/desktops need to be relatively up to date (Windows 8 or OS X and up), and the same goes for phones (Android Marshmallow and iPhone 7 and up).
You can find out more about compatibility on the World Series of Poker download page, but here’s how to start the process:
- Go to the World Series of Poker download page — on the homepage you’ll see a “download” link.
- You’ll receive an automatic prompt via pop-up to download the installation pack. Accept the prompt.
- Once the download is complete, open the file — you’ll see it in your downloads folder.
- The installation wizard will complete the process for you. If a security message appears, you need to make sure to approve the installation.
- After you’ve downloaded the app, you’ll be able to launch the program.
Once you’ve launched WSOP, you’ll be able to join. As we said above, we found the registration process to be simple.
Why should I choose the World Series of Poker app?
- Lots of banking methods: WSOP offers a number of ways to move your money into and out of your account.
- Lots of games: There are a solid number of games at World Series of Poker. There are classics for people who want to keep it simple, and then there are tournaments and setups that keep things fresh.
- Game guides: If you’re unfamiliar with any of the games, there are guides for almost all of them. This can help you avoid losing out just because you don’t know the rules.
What won’t I like about the World Series of Poker app?
- No desktop platform: While it’s completely normal to have an app, we’d appreciate the ability to play World Series without one. A browser-based way to play the games would be great, too.
What kinds of games can I play at WSOP?
There are a lot of games available at World Series of Poker — so much so that we were playing for hours. There are classic cash games of Texas Hold’em, tournaments, all-in or fold games, and more.
Overall, we’d say that you’re unlikely to grow tired of what’s that. As long as you’re a poker fan, and not just somebody who wants to try it out, then you’ll enjoy the varied lineup of games. But, if you’re a newcomer or just somebody looking to try out poker, all the options may be a little overwhelming to start with.
Texas Hold’em
Cash Texas Hold’em is the game most familiar to the world outside of poker. There are no limits on the WSOP Texas Hold’em tables, and there are four to choose from: low stakes, middle stakes, high stakes, and VIP games (which you’ll need an invite to).
6+ short
You play this game with a short deck, i.e., a deck with fewer than 52 cards. The 2, 3, 4, and 5 cards aren’t in the deck (hence the name). While we were playing 6+, one of the interesting things was how the hand rankings changed — a flush beats a full house.
Omaha
Omaha is a cash game with a bet limit — the pot size. If there’s $100 in the pot, for instance, you can make a max bet of $100. In addition, Omaha has four hold cards, rather than the two that you get in Texas Hold’em.
All-in or fold
All-in or fold games are simple in their premise: It’s all or nothing. Yes, or no. Simple.
You can play Texas Hold’em or Omaha variants. Every hand requires you to either go all-in or fold. As soon as you’re done, the next round is there with the same choice. You can play all-in or fold as a standard eight big blind game or as a sit and go game. If you play as a sit and go, you’ll be in a 16-player mini-tournament with a shootout format.
Rush and Cash
Rush and Cash is World Series’ fastest game, so it claims. You play it like any other game of Omaha, but if you fold, you’ll be able to “rush.” The rush function deals you into another game immediately, so you don’t have to wait for the rest of the table to catch up. You bounce from one to the other, always playing.
What we also like about this game is the cash feature. This is a random cash drop that can occur at the start of any round. The cash drop can either go in the pot, to boost the action, or be divided among all the players’ stacks.
Can I play Battle Royal at WSOP?
Battle Royal is a popular sit-and-go survival game at World Series of Poker. It’s a 30-player tournament for Texas Hold’em with three rounds: a rush round, a five-table shootout and then a final table.
The rush round is like the rush in Rush and Cash — as soon as one hand is over, you play the next — no waiting. The top 15 players go to the shootout, which is three people per table and five tables. After that, the winner of each table goes to the final table. Everyone who makes it to the final table is in the money.
How do I get money on (and off!) WSOP online quickly?
Funding your World Series of Poker account is simple.
- Open the app and log in.
- Select the cashier’s page from the menu on the right.
- You’ll see the deposit options, and you can select the one you want to use.
- Select the sum you’d like to deposit and complete the rest of the form.
Once you’ve made the deposit, you can use that cash to start playing. Here are the current banking methods available at WSOP:
- Visa
- Mastercard
- PayPal
- Neteller
- EcoPayz
- MuchBetter
- Interac
In terms of timing, all of the above methods are essentially instantaneous. A few moments after you’ve confirmed the deposit, the money will appear in your account.
You can use many of the same methods for withdrawals. The difference, however, is the time. Processing time for withdrawals is up to 48 hours, which means all methods can take up to two days to receive approval for the first step. After that, i.e., the second step, the amount of time will depend on the method you use. PayPal is the fastest, and some of the other e-wallets are a close second. A withdrawal via debit card (Visa or Mastercard) can take up to a business week.
How do I get help at WSOP poker?
If you’ve got a problem with your account or the app, then you can get in touch with support. When we did this, it was simple, and we got an answer in what we consider a reasonable amount of time. If you do need help, here are your contact options:
- Live chat
- Discord
- Social media — Twitter, Facebook, Instagram
The live chat is open 24/7, so you should be able to get help whenever you need it. The socials are also available all of the time too. If you use email, then you should expect a reply within 48 hours.
While testing the site, we contacted an agent using the live chat. We were third in the queue and got help in less than five minutes. Our agent was helpful and polite, pointing us in the direction of some resources on the FAQ page for certain questions, and giving us the answers for others.
The FAQ library is also helpful, albeit a bit difficult to navigate. There are a lot of articles explaining the solution to many issues, but finding what you’re looking for can be difficult. WSOP doesn’t filter the results well, and you can be easily overwhelmed by the number of results it returns.
How do I exclude myself from WSOP?
If you’re wagering money you can’t afford to lose, passing up on commitments in order to gamble or feeling stress and anxiety related to gambling, then you may need to seek assistance.
One step you can take is to exclude yourself from your account. To do this, open the app, go to the responsible gambling link in the menu, and select “self-exclusion” from the list of options. This will suspend your account for a set amount of time, and you won’t be able to undo it.
If you’re looking for less drastic action, you can instead place limits on your account. These limits can help stop you from committing time or money that you don’t have. If you go to the responsible gambling tab, go to “limits” to access the following options:
- Loss limits
- Deposit limits
- Bet limits
- Time limits
- Game limits
Can I play at WSOP in person?
No, the WSOP site does not have a brick-and-mortar location where you can play. That’s perfectly fine, though. It’s a really good app with good tables and a steady stream of capable players for you to compete with.
But you do have the opportunity for in-person play, too. That’s because WSOP has its tour. The tour may pass through casinos near you, and if it does, you can compete and rank. These games are more competitive than your regular online games. You can find the schedule of the tour on the WSOP site.
How does World Series of Poker compare to other Ontario poker apps?
To compare, let’s take a big name — BetMGM Poker. BetMGM offers several tournaments, same as WSOP. However, the WSOP app typically offers more game options. So, if you’re looking for something outside of just a standard game of Texas Hold’em, WSOP might be a good choice.
