History of Century Casino in Calgary

The Frank Sisson’s Silver Dollar Casino almost cornered the market when it came to entertainment in Calgary when it was first built. The site had a casino, a bowling alley, a restaurant, and a lounge for live music performances, making it one of the go-to places in Calgary. Frank Sisson himself is a larger-than-life character, surviving a shooting in 1997 while running the casino. He was also named Calgary’s Sportsman of the Year at the age of 72 in 2010 for his efforts in both bowling and rodeo.

In 2010, the casino was near bankruptcy. Century Casinos made the move to purchase the site, expanding its casino holdings in Alberta. The company, which also operates casinos in Colorado, West Virginia, England, and Poland, paid $10.5 million for the casino. Century Casinos also operates casinos aboard five luxury ocean liners.
