Grand Villa Casino Edmonton

Grand Villa Casino in Edmonton is one of the newest casino establishments owned and operated by Gateway Casinos & Entertainment. The casino opened in September 2016 and is located in Edmonton’s Ice District. Grand Villa replaced the Baccarat Casino, which was closed down the same year.

The biggest casino in Edmonton, Grand Villa is equipped with over 500 brand new video slot stations, as well as two dozen tables that offer various games like blackjack, roulette, poker and baccarat. Players who like risking a little more can visit private VIP salons to try their luck on high-limit blackjack and baccarat.

The Grand Villa is a 60,000-square-foot establishment, although the casino’s gambling space consists of only around 30,000 square feet. The casino also includes two amazing restaurants and a Starbucks. As a guest, you will have the option of getting the My Club Rewards card and enjoying some special perks while also participating in the Winner’s Edge loyalty program.

The casino doesn’t offer any accommodations for its visitors, but since it is located in downtown Edmonton, there are plenty of nearby hotels you can choose from.

By Alberta law, you must be at least 18 years old to enter the casino premises.

The casino at Grand Villa Casino Edmonton

Grand Villa Casino Edmonton is an exciting gambling facility offering various types of games and betting limits.

Like most land-based casinos, Grand Villa puts emphasis on video slot machines. According to the casino’s website, it has over 500 video slot terminals spread across the casino’s floor, some of which are brand new pieces of equipment with large curved screens and comfortable seating.

Of course, there’s something for the fans of table games, as well. You can place your chips on 28 different tables with games that include blackjack, baccarat, craps, roulette and poker. Those who like raising the stakes are free to enter luxurious VIP rooms that offer high-limit games of blackjack and baccarat.

The interior of the casino has a modern design with a starlight ceiling and blue neon lights. Although there are hundreds of video slots spread across the casino floor, there’s plenty of room to go around, and you can usually find an open seat. In the very middle of the casino is an open-ended round circle bar where people can enjoy various beverages.

Although the gambling space occupies only the lower level, you can get a nice view of the entire casino floor from multiple balconies.

Slot machines

As we mentioned, Grand Villa Casino Edmonton features over 500 brand new video slot terminals with various coin denominations. The games are made by some of the most renowned manufacturers in the industry and are played on large curved screens with HD displays.

While the current number of slot machines is around 500, Grand Villa Casino frequently adds new machines to its collection while getting rid of the old ones.

You can find some traditional reel games, but most video slots are new adventurous titles with bonus rounds and colourful symbols and characters. Several titles are connected to the Jackpot Junction, which gives you a chance to land massive jackpots and take home hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Table games

Table games at Grand Villa Casino Edmonton include all the classics — blackjack, baccarat, roulette, craps and poker. There are 28 live-action tables, most of which host blackjack games.

Here are the featured games you can play at the Grand Villa:

  • Blackjack
  • Ultimate Texas Hold ’em
  • EZ Baccarat
  • Pai Gow Tiles
  • Roulette
  • Craps

Most table games at the casino come with relatively low limits, but high rollers have something to be excited about as well. Namely, the casino has a couple of VIP rooms where you can enjoy high-stake games of blackjack and baccarat.

The exclusivity of these rooms is further enhanced with private bars and the fact that each guest gets a dedicated VIP host.

My Club Rewards & Winner’s Edge loyalty programs

Grand Villa Casino Edmonton has not one but two player reward programs you can be a part of. We will start with My Club Rewards, which you can sign up for completely free of charge.

To get the My Club Rewards card, simply show your valid photo ID to one of the casino clerks, who will sign you up. With the card, you will get special benefits, such as free parking and 10% off all food orders in one of the casino’s restaurants. The card also comes with a point system through which you can win free chips, get additional discounts and enter the casino’s monthly draw for a chance to win big.

Winner’s Edge is a province-wide loyalty program for all casinos in Alberta. By signing up for the program, you will get up to 500,000 bonus points that you can use on various games, a birthday bonus worth 20,000 points, monthly and weekly spins on all slot machines in participating casinos, and more.

You earn one point for every C$1–C$5 bet. You can redeem your points for bonus play or for entering various contests. Members can also enjoy a 10% discount on selected menu items.

Grand Villa Casino Edmonton poker room

Unfortunately, Grand Villa Casino Edmonton does not have a dedicated poker room at the moment, nor are there any poker tournaments taking place in the casino.

However, you will be able to play casino poker at a few tables, with Ultimate Texas Hold ’em being the only available game.

Grand Villa Casino Edmonton amenities

Accommodations

Grand Villa doesn’t have an accompanying hotel on its premises, which is a bit of a downside. However, due to the fact that the casino is located in downtown Edmonton, there are plenty of hotels that you can find nearby, overlooking the North Saskatchewan River.

Just across 104th Avenue, you will find JW Marriott Edmonton, a five-star luxury hotel that many casino guests choose to stay at. Other nearby hotels include Sutton Place, Delta Hotels by Marriott, Coast Edmonton Plaza Hotel, The Westin, DoubleTree by Hilton and others.

Dining

The casino’s location leaves you many options for grabbing a nice dinner or going out to drinks with your friends. However, the casino also has a couple of its own restaurants, together with Starbucks. The restaurants are:

  • Match Eatery & Public House — A casual atmosphere with live music ideal for a fun night out with friends. The menu includes everything from dusted pork ribs to pizzas and chicken sandwiches.
  • Atlas Steak + Fish — This restaurant offers a family-friendly atmosphere with fresh maritime dishes and local Alberta beef.

Just a reminder that you can get a 10% discount at each of these Grand Villa Casino Edmonton restaurants if you become a member of one of the casino’s rewards programs.

Grand Villa Casino Edmonton history

Grand Villa’s predecessor, called the Baccarat, was opened in 2002, marking a pivotal moment for Gateway Casinos & Entertainment. However, Gateway decided to replace Baccarat with the Grand Villa Casino, the second casino under that name (the other one being located in Burnaby), while Baccarat was demolished in 2020.

The 60,000-square-foot casino was officially opened on Sept. 7, 2016. The cost of building the casino was around an estimated $32 million. Today, Grand Villa is one of the most popular casinos in Edmonton and the only one located in the city centre.
