Matthew Lomon has been a contributor at Catena Media’s network of regional sites since July 2022. He first broke into covering the legal North American gambling industry with PlayCanada after graduating “with distinction” from Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly known as Ryerson) in the Spring of 2022 with a degree in Professional Communication.
Lomon’s work with PlayCanada involves reporting on timely industry news across the variety of Canadian iGaming jurisdictions, most notably Ontario. Topics include financial, regulatory, and responsible gambling-related happenings in the retail and online casino and sports betting environments.
His contributions mainly consist of features, guides, breakdowns, and lists. Lomon also takes great pride in building stories through interviews and primary research.
Since joining PlayCanada, Matthew has gone on to contribute related articles to PlayMichigan, PlayPennsylvania, and PlayIllinois. Outside of his work with Catena, Matthew writes weekly columns for Woodbine Racetrack’s MyRailbirds, a horse racing handicapping website. He also contributes features and previews to Woodbine Entertainment’s traditional news channels.
His presence in the horse racing industry also extends to the Standardbred side through Harness Racing Update. There, Lomon has written several features on various horse people and industry matters.
Based out of Toronto, Ontario, Matthew is an avid (bordering on fanatic) sports fan. Growing up, he would start his day parked in front of the TV to catch every second of theScore’s morning highlight cycle. Nothing else mattered until all 30 minutes were fully absorbed.
His favourite teams include the Toronto Blue Jays, Toronto Raptors, and Denver Broncos.
