Canada map with Ontario pinpointed for story on Bet99 partnering with GeoComply

Exactly how many Ontario online gambling operators Vancouver-based GeoComply works with to provide geolocation services is not public information. But we do know the name of one operator, for sure.

Bet99 has selected GeoComply as the geolocation supplier for its products in the legal Ontario online casinos and Ontario sportsbook market.

The deal between the Canadian-focused operator and the Canadian-founded business will help the former facilitate improvements in several key areas, including customer compliance and gross gaming revenue.

“We are very pleased to support the critical compliance needs of a wide array of customers in Ontario,” a spokesperson for GeoComply told PlayCanada in an email. “The success of this market has the potential to pave the way for greater growth opportunities throughout all of Canada.”

GeoComply brings proven track record to Bet99 customer base

For Bet99, the decision to partner with GeoComply coincided with its determination to provide an exceptional customer experience.

And, GeoComply’s new mobile and desktop solution allows them to do exactly that.

“We are excited to partner with GeoComply. They have more experience than any other geolocation provider and a commitment to innovation, as evidenced by GeoComply’s new No Download Browser Solution,” said Bet99 chief technology officer Paul Nyzuk in a press release.

“Our priority is ensuring the best player experience while achieving the highest standards in compliance. GeoComply’s cutting-edge technology brings tremendous efficiencies so BET99 can achieve these goals.”

With the new technology, players can validate their location in one click without leaving the page or downloading a secondary app or plugin. The system also works with operators to protect players from fraud, which is a significant component of GeoComply’s services.

From registration to deposit to withdrawal, GeoComply offers fraud solutions that detect spoofing devices, account takeovers, bonus abuse, and more.

For reference, location or “GPS spoofing” occurs when someone tries to disguise their location by falsifying the actual geographical location of their device.

Other operators that use GeoComply in Ontario include BetMGM Ontario, Caesars Online Casino Ontario and BetRivers Ontario.

Fraudsters wanted their share of Ontario market in year one

Ontario operators were high-priority targets for fraudsters in year one.

Since the regulated market launch in April 2022, aggregate data from GeoComply to its Ontario operators discovered:

  • More than 744,000 users from around the world have attempted to log in 19.9 million times to Ontario operators.
  • Over 54,000 users located within the United States tried to log in 305,000 times to Ontario operators.
  • Globally, there have been upwards of 3.3 million location spoofing attempts to access Ontario operators.

Although the findings may be eye-opening to some, GeoComply says it is par for the course in the e-commerce world.

“With any form of eCommerce, fraud is something online businesses must combat on a daily basis.”

Luckily, the company believes the gaming industry stands a better chance against fraud thanks to location-based requirements.

“The online gaming [sector] is no different, but we believe it is better equipped than other industries to fight fraud because of geolocation compliance requirements.”
