FanDuel and DraftKings are officially live in Alberta following the opening of the province’s regulated iGaming market on July 13.

Both operators are offering online sportsbooks and casinos. Meanwhile, DraftKings has also brought its Golden Nugget Online Gaming brand to the province. Their arrival adds some of North America’s largest gambling platforms to Alberta’s regulated market from opening day.

Alberta is now the second Canadian province, after Ontario, to operate a competitive online gambling market, with private operators competing alongside the provincially run PlayAlberta platform.

FanDuel launches sportsbook and casino in Alberta

Alberta players can access FanDuel Sportsbook and Casino through the operator’s Canadian app. Its casino offers slots, table games, and live dealer titles. FanDuel’s sportsbook provides pregame and live betting across major professional and collegiate sports.

FanDuel has also secured an exclusive Alberta partnership with Light & Wonder for its popular Huff N’ Puff slot franchise.

“Alberta represents an exciting new chapter for FanDuel Canada, and we look forward to the opportunity to bring our industry-leading Casino and Sportsbook experience to players across the province,”

said Dale Hooper, general manager of FanDuel Canada.

FanDuel deepens its Alberta ties and expands CFL deal

FanDuel is donating $50,000 to the A Dollar A Day Foundation to support frontline mental health programs in Alberta. The operator has worked with the organization for three years and has now contributed a combined $150,000 to mental health initiatives across Alberta and Ontario.

It is also donating $30,000 to the Canadian Red Cross Emergency Management Program in Alberta. The funding will help communities prepare for disasters, receive support during emergencies, and recover afterward.

FanDuel’s involvement in the province also includes its title sponsorship of the 2026 Cowboys Stampede Showdown Charity Poker Tournament. This year’s event raised a record $260,000 for the Calgary Stampede Foundation, bringing its all-time fundraising total above $1.3 million.

The operator has also renewed its partnership with the Canadian Football League through a multi-year agreement. Previously focused on Ontario, the partnership now extends into Alberta and adds online casino gaming as a sponsorship category.

The expansion comes ahead of the 113th Grey Cup. The game will be played at McMahon Stadium in Calgary on Nov. 15.

DraftKings launches three platforms in Alberta

DraftKings has launched DraftKings Sportsbook, DraftKings Casino, and Golden Nugget Online Gaming in Alberta. The province becomes the second Canadian market for both casino brands and the 34th North American jurisdiction offering DraftKings Sportsbook.

The sportsbook includes same-game parlays, live in-game wagering, and odds boosts. DraftKings Casino and Golden Nugget Online Gaming offer thousands of games, including exclusive slots, progressive jackpots, and titles such as Wheel of Fortune Triple Extreme Spin.

DraftKings Sportsbook and Casino are available through a single app. Golden Nugget Online Gaming has a separate casino app. Both apps are available on iOS and Android.

“We’re thrilled to launch DraftKings Sportsbook and DraftKings Casino, as well as Golden Nugget Online Gaming in Alberta and continue expanding our presence in Canada,”

said Greg Karamitis, DraftKings’ executive vice president and general manager of sports

“Launching during one of the biggest moments in global sports, with the World Cup taking place across North America, makes this an especially exciting time to welcome Albertans to DraftKings,”

Karamitis added.

DraftKings supports Alberta communities

DraftKings is marking its launch with a $150,000 donation to Food Banks Alberta and a volunteer event involving company employees.

The funding will purchase more than 40,000 pounds of essential food, including high-demand items such as fruits, vegetables, and baby formula, for distribution through the organization’s network of member food banks.

DraftKings also held a World Cup watch party at the Wildhorse Saloon in Calgary on July 11. That came two days before the market opened. The event was part of a wider series of World Cup watch parties organized by the company across North America.

Alberta opens Canada’s second competitive iGaming market

Before launching, operators must complete the provincial registration process and enter a commercial agreement with the Alberta iGaming Corporation. Approved platforms can then offer online casino games and sports betting to eligible players physically located in Alberta.

The new market gives Albertans a wider selection of regulated alternatives to offshore gambling sites while introducing provincial requirements around player protection and operational compliance.

Players must be at least 18 and physically located in Alberta to wager. Operators must provide responsible gambling controls, including deposit limits, cooling-off periods, and self-exclusion tools.

Alberta’s official list has now reached 50 registered operators. That said, not every company went live on opening day. More platforms are expected to become available once the remaining operators receive launch approval.
